Question Another Question...

Hi all. Z's breeder also raises caiques and has 4 babies with Z and her sibling weaning right now. They all get along great and bathe, eat, play and argue. Just like human siblings! My question is, how will Zakiya handle being taken away from her siblings? I am nervous about her missing them terribly. Can anyone offer any insight to this for me? Thanks in advance!

Einstein was raised with a sibling at the breeder and she went home a day before he did. He was sadd, went off his feed for a bit and then seemed to enjooy the fact that it was all about him! He got usedd to being an "only" very quickly.

He may have a bit of separation anxiety, but I truly believe that this helps the bonding process with you become stronger. Since he misses his buddies, he will then bond strongly to you as his "new" family.

My macaw was handfed with another macaw of same age and kept together at the handfeeders. They were the best of friends. The handfeeder (who is also a breeder) separated them about a week or so before I brought Cooper home with me in order to prepare him for being without his playmate. She said the two of them called and called for each other initially but by the time Cooper was ready to come home with me, he was adjusted to being in a cage by himself. You might want to talk about doing the same with your baby grey's breeder.

Ollie was raised with her 2 hatchmates. She was a little reserved her first day or 2 with me, but I attributed that more to being in a new environment than anything else. I'm sure Z will miss her companions, but she's going to get new ones!

She may miss her buddies a little but as everyone says she will soon get new ones. It is preferable that babies are always raised with clutch mates even if not the same species.

I think this is great advise.
