Default Aggressive Flying

Afa is clipped but doesnt seem to know it. She is flying in my face, slapping me with her wings, flying onto the top of my head, and she lands like she weighs 20 lbs. Its making me CRAZY! Tonight she flew into my face while I had hot pie and landed on top of it. The pie went everywhere. Im still NOT laughing over it. She has pie all over her wings. It was like a firecracker went off on my plate. She is literally leaning right into my face, crest up screaming at me! I need to take deep breaths. She treats me with ridiculous disrespect. Its not like I can spank her and send her to her room. I cant leave her in her cage 24/7. She's making it very hard for me to like her anymore. I LOVE her, but...she's driving me crazy.

Oh my gosh, I'm totally feeling very close to you right now Leigh! Ollie has been doing similar things for a few months now. She lands very hard on my head (and I KNOW she's capable of more grace) and then immediately takes off again- sometimes it's almost like she's just ricocheting off my head for the heck of it. It won't surprise me if soon she's grabbing chunks of my scalp to take with her. When she does this its almost like she's been possessed by pure evil.

She is being very naughty.
Fly to the top of the door, ricochet off momma's head, fly back to the door, land on the shoe rack and start eating shoes, fly to the top of the heater or humidifier, ricochet off momma's head, scream way too loud just to get a reaction out of mom, back to the top of the door.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Today she was only out of her cage for an hour, and I don't at all feel bad about it. Not for a span of 5 minutes of that time was she a good girl.

She is usually so sweet, but it seems like lately she has gotten one heck of an attitude! Often I feel like screaming with her!

Oh Camille! Im having a really hard time with this. It hurts my heart to feel the way I do about her right now. She's bouncing off things just like Ollie. The thing is, she's clipped!! I took it to 7 feathers tonight and she's still flying. I sure hope this is temporary. Its like she's really trying to dominate me and Im exhausted. Then Buddy bit me and made me bleed, 30 seconds after he came out this morning. Occy has been going into a screaming trance. Have you ever heard an Ekkie scream? Its a horrible sound. I can stand in front of him and call his name, waving my hands in front of him and he doesnt even blink. He is in a zone. The only good one lately is Alex.

If it makes you feel any better, sometimes I'm ashamed by the way I feel about Ollie. You know, on those days when nothing seems to be going right, then you come home hoping for a little birdie lovin' to brighten the day and instead they seem to want to do everything to just make you either scream or break down into tears. Nobody ever said being a parront was easy! You'll make it through and will laugh about it later. Repeating that over and over is what's keeping me going, lol!

Nope, never heard an ekkie scream. I've actually never even met one in real life!

Okay...yes! I definitely can associate with the moodiness of the fids. I think we all get those bad thoughts days. I often threaten Jazzy that I'm gonna trade her in. Of course I would never do such a thing, but sometimes I feel like I really want to!!!
...and also the Ekkie scream. The Ekkie scream is almost up there with a M2 scream, in my opinion

Just remember with all parrots.....this too SHALL PASS!!

(((((Hugs all around))))) I can empathize, some days certainly are tough ones.

You can try to cover all your bases to keep known triggers to a minimum. You may be getting into some early seasonal hormonal behaviors. Try to follow strict sun-up/sun-down times and see if that helps. Keep an eye on protein and you may want to cut down on nuts a little.

I've had pretty good luck keeping the Crumpies at bay by maintaining a strict sleep time this season. <fingers crossed here that it continues>

What's the best way to maintain a strict sleep schedule, please Karen? I could definitely use some tips!

What times? Do you cover? Etc?

What do you do when you're away from home when it's the fid's bed time? Or do you make sure you're home? We run a lot of late errands and go to people's houses for dinner...so I can see that being an issue...

Thanks

OK, I'm not having this aggressive flying problem yet, but I'm sure I will. Ryan is also possessed by pure evil lately. Camille, that almost brought tears to my eyes when I read that from you. I was laughing so hard.

But I feel and understand both of you! I think there is something in the air. I went to a bird store the other day, I think it's the only decent one in NJ, and said to them PLEASE HELP ME! I need something new immediately! The woman there told me a lot of people are saying the same things about their birds - evil. She said it's mating season. I say it's possession.

Hang in there girls!
