Default AC broken, fans on

Our Ac is broken, and while we aren't experiencing the heat wave the rest of the country is (thank god!) it is still hot here. So we have had the ceiling fans on non stop here. We have two in the living room where the birds are, and one is almost directly over the bird cage. Is this bad for them? Should I move the cage?

I often use the fans when the fids are in their cages & haven't noticed any problems. Funny....I was just thinking about turning mine off and turning on the air because I can smell the smoke from the fire in Santa Barbara (just read they have spent over 73 million fighting it over the last six weeks).

I'm cautious about too much direct wind blowing on them. Also, it makes Tausi nervous. Other than that, my only comment about ceiling fans is to make sure they never, ever, are turned on when the birds are out. Because I can't be trusted to remember this, my ceiling fan is never used and the wall switch controlling it is taped in the off position.

Another suggestion to help them deal with heat is to freeze plastic jugs of water and put them in or around the cage.

Thanks, they don't seem scared or bothered by them, I was just worried about the wind. I never have them on when they are out either, which means they haven't been coming out much in the last few days, poor babies. It's just so hard to get them back in the cage since they are not hand tame, so they usually come out for a few hours until they go back in themselves, and it's too hot to turn the fans off for that long.

Air con basically does not exist for private homes in England - even rich people. So when we had a heat wave, I froze plastic bottles of water and hung them in Humph's cage. That way, when she was hot, she could rub up against the condensation. She did. She really enjoyed herself and kept cool when she wanted to.
