Default 4th Fireworks

Diane's post in the too forum reminded me that I was going to post this thread a few days ago. How did your fids do this 4th of July? Was everybody calm, cool, and collected...or were there any frightened birdies?

This was Ollie's first time actually hearing any fireworks. For her first 2 July 4th's we were on my parents farm in the country- no fireworks to be heard there. I was shocked of the condition Manhattan was in around 8pm onward on the 4th. A smoky haze had settled over the entire town and 3 seconds didn't go without a firecracker (or 20) going off. Ollie did surprisingly well. She listened pretty intently for awhile, but eventually she just ignored them.

I was thrilled that it poured rain here on the 4th. But I know it's coming this weekend.

LOL - this must be coming from a bird person; everybody else would be sad if the fireworks got cancelled

We've had fireworks all week. My budgies have been fine but my dog has been a mess.

The bird didn't have a problem, but I couldn't get to sleep until after 12:30 w/ all the fireworks in the neighborhood.

I don't think Einstein even noticed anything was going on. With four children it is pretty nuts at our house most of the time so noise, ah who cares about a few pops and bangs! The dog however has not left my side since last week!

It was so loud around here I couldn't believe it. I was so surprised, it didn't even phase Jack and Seymour. They both just went to sleep as usual??? Our dogs even did remarkably well, the just sat on the couch and looked out the window.

Birds did fine, but as usual, the dogs freaked out and lost it. Not enough Rescue Remedy and Bendadryl in our city to keep those guys calm and unaffected. It helped, slightly, though, for which we are grateful. The siding on our house wasn't eaten by any dog, although Bitsy still won't venture outside after dark. I figure he'll be over it in a couple of weeks...... I hope..............

Birds truly just slept right through it, with only the occasional beady birdy eyeball opening in surprise when a particularly large (illegal) firework went off within feet of our house.

I don't like the 4th of July. Too many privately owned, illegal fireworks, here. Not only does it totally freak out the dogs, but it's also an extreme firehazard in a neighborhood full of tall, old Doug Firs, and houses almost all sided with cedar shingles. I will truly rejoice if private fireworks are ever prohibited.
