A BROTHER and sister have received special thanks after reuniting a missing parrot with her worried owner.
Matthew and Nicola Grayless, of Roose Road, Barrow, had an exciting start to their Easter holiday when they discovered Buffy the parrot on their garden fence.
The African Grey was spotted by 11-year-old Matthew, and his sister Nicola, 12, caught the bird.
The two-year-old parrot escaped from her home in the Salthouse area of Barrow.
Its owner, Ian Jones, was desperate to find her and spent many hours pacing the neighbourhood looking for the captive bred bird.
A friend of the Grayless children saw one of the missing posters and Mr Jones and Buffy were reunited.
Mr Jones was particularly distressed by Buffy’s disappearance because last year two of his African Grey parrots died and two Orange Winged Amazon parrots were seriously injured and now live at a parrot sanctuary.
Mr Jones said: “I will always be so grateful to Nicola, Matthew and their family for finding Buffy, taking her in and looking after her.
“Buffy’s escape was so upsetting for me. I suffered some terrible bad luck with my parrots last year. Buffy survived but she was very ill, but she is okay now.”
Buffy is now back at home with African Grey parrots Toby, 14 and Andy, three.
Nicola, a pupil at St Bernard’s School, said: “I was surprised at seeing a parrot on our fence. It was nice to have a parrot here.”
