RCMP officers often have to track down colourful characters, but Mikey is a bird of a different feather.
The pet parrot was set free Sunday without his owner's consent, and Port Hawkesbury RCMP are now asking anyone who may spot the bird to call them or the local SPCA.
Const. Carrie Cumming described Mikey as vibrant green in colour, with a bit of blue and red on the tips of his wings. The friendly parrot doesn't speak, but squawks loudly.
The owner's 15-year-old grandson removed the bird from his Bernard Street home, took him a block away to Granville Street and released him.
"He could be just about anywhere right now," Cumming said. "They would really like to have their bird back ... These poor people lost their pet. This poor little guy's out flying around, somewhere."
There haven't been any reported sightings of Mikey since he was released, she added. With temperatures dipping to freezing overnight, there are concerns for his welfare.
It's still undetermined whether charges will be laid.
For Cumming, who has been an RCMP constable for 311/42 years, it's not the first time she's encountered an unusual case involving a bird in Port Hawkesbury. And previously, she did get her bird.
"I have chased a chicken down Reeves Street," she said. "Somebody called and said there's a chicken running down the middle of the main street, so, there I was, standing in the middle of traffic. I caught that one, though." - Cape Breton Post
