War-stressed veterans may soon have their souls balmed by traumatized, feather-plucking parrots if a new L.A. project takes off. The project, at the new "Serenity Park Sanctuary" in the Veterans' Garden in West Los Angeles, brings stressed-out parrots and war veterans together.
When parrots get stressed, they do all kinds of awful things, explains a press release describing the parrot-veteran healing scheme: They pluck their feathers and mutilate themselves.
As for veterans, that psychological trauma can result from fighting in a combat zone is obvious.
"Here," states the release, "veterans enjoy the tranquillity of the aviary, and through mutual care and dedication the parrots and veterans can help each other heal."
We have absolutely no idea what to make of this scheme, except to say — we hope it works.
