She is a rare Hyacinth Macaw, stolen from a Putah Creek Road aviary on Sunday, July 15. Eight other exotic birds were also taken. Anyone with information about the birds is asked to call the Solano County Sheriff’s Department, (707) 421-7090.

Samantha Hughston’s life revolves around caring for her exotic birds. Since Sunday, July 15, it has revolved around getting them back. While she was attending a barbecue at a friend’s home about three miles away, someone trespassed on her property on Putah Creek Road just outside Winters and stole nine birds.
Ironically, Hughston says caring for her birds was such an all-consuming project, with baby birds needing to be fed every couple hours and all of the birds on special, regimented diets, that she estimates she has only been away from home for more than a couple hours three times in the span of a year. Last Sunday, she and her husband left for a cookout birthday party around noon. She returned home to feed some baby macaws around 6:30 and all was well. However, when they returned home at 10:30, they discovered the cage door for the Hyacinth Macaw, named Lilly, was wide open and she had vanished. . . .
