Macaws Jim & I have shared our lives with birds since 1999. Presently we have 7 macaws and a token Amazon in our flock.
The first macaw to join us was our Severe Macaw Rascal. He was only a baby when we met him and he is now 6 years old. Reuben came along next. He was a 2 year old GW who was put on consignment at a local bird farm after his owners had to move and could only take one bird with them. The Hyacinth won the place with them while Ru won his place with us.
Next to join us was Maxie a 2 1/2 year old B&G. The people at the bird store told us he lost his home due to a fire...after Maxie was with us we found out that he was rather LOUD and that was most likely the reason. Max was lucky to have found us when he did because within a week of us bringing him home, the store abruptly closed and the people disappeared. Who knows what would have happened.
Over the years we found our BTM Oscar, and our Hy Angel who were babies when they joined us. Hedgie GW and Casey Hahns were two more older macaws who came to live with us. One, who is no longer with us but will never be forgotten is Tango. She was a Harley who came to live with us at the age of 5. Unfortunately we lost her this year to diabetes. She had a difficult time before she came to us in her previous home but we feel good knowing that at least the time we had with her was a better quality of life for her.
Jim & I love these majestic creatures. They are a joy to live with and keep us laughing all the time. The best thing about living with them is that no matter how difficult the work day may be, when you open the door you are greeted by Hello and Hi Ya in 8 different voices! That is enough to turn any frown into a smile.
Jim & I have been married for 32 years and together for 35. We have 2 children and 3 1/2 grandchildren. Along with our birdies we have a Lab and Portugese Water Dog who are also rehomes and 2 Chihuahuas. It is definitely a lively home. |
