Ruby's thread reminded me of this. I've said that Winston learns English words from Jerry and it's so cool for me not only to hear Winston practice or say something in English, but especially cool for me to hear it through Jerry as well. Winston's voice is very different from Jerry's and Jerry has it down pat (of course, the lil' smarty pants!).

So yesterday Jerry was on the window sill supervising as I washed their bowls. Then I heard him say, in Winston's voice, "Hello Mister Budgie!" I've heard Winston working on Mister recently. And then I thought how cool it might be if Jerry can help Winston when he talks in Winston's voice. This is how I always hear of Winston's new words, because Jerry says them first in front of me

Now I just wait and listen for Winston to break out this whole phrase from his beak

That Jerry is too much! Are you sure he isn't doing all this to steal the show?! Nothing could be cuter or smarter than Jerry. Sometimes I pity Winston - thankfully he is so different that he can stand 'tall' on his own merit.

At first I did think it was merely Jerry trying to outdo Winston But I've heard many times now that I'll hear Winston sort of sounding out some words, then I'll hear it out of Jerry in Winston's voice, and then to confirm it I'll hear it from Winston eventually. So this is generally the process now

This phrase of "Hello Mister Budgie" is something that both Jerry and I say very frequently so I'm not surprised that Winston is choosing to work on this. I've heard him say Budgie before too, sometimes he'll tack on Budgie after "I love you."

Your stories about Winston learning from Jerry & vise versa are really cool. I had never heard of such a thing before.

How neat Sarah! Jerry's the little tattletale letting you know that Winston knows more than he's letting on to. It is amazing how much they teach each other. I think they pick things up faster from a flock mate than they do from us. Kady ends up repeating things I've say to Kita. It's so cute when I hear him talking to her like I do, in my voice!
