It's been a while since we've posted.... This morning we woke up to see our 5 year old female Cockatiel, Sunny, not feeling well. Her feathers were fluffed out, breathing hard, and her abdominal area swelled up. We called our vet and got Sunny in right away. She looked at Sunny and advised we go to the K-State Vet Med school. We took her there, they are keeping her for the weekend which is really hard on us. They did a basic x-ray to check for a lodged egg, but did not see anything. They're hoping to take a blood test when she is doing stronger. They started her on antibiotics hoping for some improvement.

Did some searching and ran into Peritonitis, I'm really hoping this isn't the issue, but the symptoms sound somewhat like hers. She hasn't laid in egg in over 6 months though.

Our other Cockatiel, Tommy, is very upset. We've been trying to keep him as happy as possible, which isn't easy.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions, we're both really worked up over this.

We will all pray for you! It could be anything. Best to let the vets do their thing and try to stay calm or you will worry sick. Trying to diagnose from your own research sometimes adds to the anxiety. Keep us posted and best wishes.

I talked to the vet a little bit ago.... They said Sunny is showing some small improvements, she's more attentive, and the vet said she's having more of an attitude with them too, which makes us happy to hear in a funny way.

They're probably going to wait until Monday to do any more x-rays or blood work. I'll keep you guys updated.... Thanks for all the thoughts.

They called us this morning and said she is still doing ok, definitely not getting any worse. We're worried about what the test results may show tomorrow, but I guess we have to take one thing at a time....

Cfulhage, have you ever had to take a pet to Vet Med? Just curious, so far we are very happy with the help we've gotten with Sunny.
