Default Their new home

We have been in our new condo for a few weeks and the budgies have been scared to come out of their cage to fly. I leave the door open all day and they show no interest.

Well today I was in the kitchen and something flys past me. It was Sugar. He had come out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. He was scared and landed on the floor. I scooped him up and took him in the bedroom and who should be flying around but Spice.

Spice is scared too and goes into the masterbath. I run in there and scoop him up and get them both back in their cage. They immediately start kissing each other.

I think they were both so happy to be back safe and sound. But at least they finally got some exercise.

Here are some pics of my new place.

Comfortable home with a great view. Something about living on the water at sunrise and sunset that is so beautiful and peaceful.

Good view, I guess they still need to get braver.

What a beautiful home! I'm glad that Sugar and Spice have finally flown around a little - I'm sure they'll adjust over time.

Yes, we do feel like we are on a permanent vacation. Thanks for all the nice comments. Now if only Sugar and Spice would feel like it is home. I even hung my old curtains that they used to love to sit on in hopes to make them feel more comfortable.

I've read quite a few times that budgies sometimes don't deal well with change - I've heard stories of budgies being upset over moving the furniture around (Jerry very was angry when we moved Lulu's cage awhile back, but he seems more ok with change recently). But I'm sure that they will bounce back soon as they are pretty resilient. They probably just need time to observe their new surroundings.

What I do with my guys when we move furniture or bring in new things is I take them around and explain everything to them. I tell them about the furniture or the particular room, everything.

Love your new place - fabulous views, even for this time of year.

Our birds react the same way if they fly into the living room. They kind of panic.
Usually they fly to the pull-up drapes which are similar in each room. Laker is eager to step-up & Rio flies to our shoulders to be escorted back to the areas we encourage them to use.

I encouraged Laker when i first got him - I even took him around in his cage to each room for an hour or so. I also remember walking Laker around, on my finger & casually chatted away as we approached dressers, beds & chairs, when he was learning to fly longer distances. I found him places to perch in those rooms - they need to have something familiar I think. They feel OK if their flock is OK with something.

Some will take a risk. It was the risk taker Rio who saw the Hibiscus tree as a place to play & got Laker to try. We never walk the Budgies down the hall to the Living area. Once in a while they try to follow us or by accident they follow the lights & our voices. Because they are unfamiliar with the area they are not comfortable there.

I imagine yours will adjust quickly. It may be a bit stressful but also an exciting time too. The views must be fun for them too.

How's Parsley?
