Default nickel plated parts for toys?

Hi Everyone,

I went to my local Home Depot to try and find stainless steel chain and eyelets for a toy that I am making for Dozy. I didn't find stainless but found lots of other stuff - zinc coated, copper, etc. Is nickel coated chain and eyelets safe to use?

I've seen nickel plated at several places that sell parrot toy parts too. Hmmm... Ok, thanks.

I think nickel plated is okay...SS is best though. A lot of places sell their toys with nickel plated hardware, you can tell by looking that it isn't SS.

Good to know. I've gone to Home Depot and Lowe's and neither carry SS nickel plated chain. I was able to find SS eyelets. I think I may just hemp rather than chain. There, problem solved!

Thanks for the help!

You could always order the chain from the site I gave you! Lots of us order parts from them and they are very dependable.

I recommend Poly Rope (Product Listing - paulie - starting with the 2nd item). Chain is way too hard to work with, and Poly Rope is easy to knot and thin enough that most toy parts fit on it. Poly Rope is the base of 95% of the toys I make.
