Hi from Papua New Guinea,
My father-in-law has rescued a parrot from captivity and after much research I've finally discovered that it is a Pesquet's Parrot - not a black cockatoo as we originally thought. I have rescued many birds from horrible lives in captivity, but those were mostly cockatoos, loris and kokomos. I've never dealt with a rare bird before so I have joined parrotchatter in the hope that somebody here can help me give this traumatised bird a happy life. It has no apparent experience in/attachment to the outdoors and is most comfortable indoors. He becomes very quiet and withdrawn if put in one of our aviaries, let alone the smaller cage that we keep on our verandah. He has been sleeping in our bedroom, and whilst that's very entertaining for now I can't see it as a practical long-term arrangement! Any help or suggestions would be very welcome.
welcome to parrot chatter, so glad to have you here! i am unfamiliar with the pesquet's parrot; i think this is the first time i have ever even heard the name. are they similar in appearance to a cockatoo?
