Default Huge Scare!

Last night while sitting here at the computer, I had Dagwood on the boing playing. The Grandmonster's and their Grandpa were watching tv {Spongebob}, and laughing. I happened to look up and saw Dagwood chewing on the chain, I laughed and told him, go ahead you little stinker and chew, you won't break through that. Well, no sooner than the last word comes out of my mouth, and..........it was like watching a movie in slow motion, down he came boing and all straight to the floor! I of course scream and run over to him. He waddled out of the wreckage, shook his little head, made a peep sound, and looked up at me with almost a smile on his beak, as if to say, Whoa! What a rush!!! I picked him up and cuddled him, he gives me a big beaky kiss, as if to say, that everythings ok Mom. Well, that added another grey hair or two,LOL! But that was a doozie of a fall, and scared me half to death! Needless to say, I'm going to have to buy thicker chain for the boing, this is twice this little racal has chewed through ss chain! Being birdie proof has nothing on Dagwood!LOL!!!!

Libby often twirls on her bell chain and once in a while knocks it down Libby and all. Those little buggers are pretty resilient.

Whoa! That was scary, kinda like when Maple was hanging by her beak from a plastic ring on her hoop and it broke and she fell to the floor. Did the same thing too...waddled away as if nothing happened....they are tough cookies! Must have given you quite a scare tho. Time to invest in some really THICK chain..haha! Glad to hear Dagwood is no worse for wear! Tricky little guys they are.

They always chopping down things, I give the ringies branches to chew and the number of times that bird and branch has fallen cos they chop the wrong side. They stand on the thin end which is loose and hangs lower. I don't think falling bothers them, these are aviary birds and flighted, so they rarely hit the floor.

You will need a much thicker chain because certain sizes create other problems like getting toes or beak caught in the chain. I mostly use rope that does not fray to prevent chain cutting or catching body parts in the chain.

What is it about them falling that freaks us out? I think we're worried about their wee birdie bones breaking & their bent tails.
But I think they're tougher than they appear.

When my guys crashed the light fixture they flew away - thank goodness. But when Laker couldn't find a landing spot & hit the door, fell to the ground & waddle away trying to muster his dignity, that was a moment to remember. This waddling away from the accident like it was no big deal, reminds me of cat behavior. My cat would look so outraged when she fell/rolled off the bed.

I've often worried about chains - I know some have them & have had great success. I have stuck to the ropes. I have read of birds getting caught on rope fibers but mine are in good shape ... that reminds me - Laker needs a nail trim.

Holy Mackerel, Judy, you wouldn't think he could chew through that, would you? Luckily none of mine have tried that trick yet! Glad Dagwood was unhurt, and escaped with his dignity intact.

What a scare for you. Our macaws drop chained toys, rings, orbits quite often. It is a fun challenge for them and they too get a smile on their beak when it happens. They think it is sooooo cool.

That is one way to get Mom's attention, huh? Glad everyone is okay. My two have not been chewing much lately, but I am expecting it!
