Default Anyone owned by a Buffon's?

This is one of the few Macaws I have never meet. I would love to someday but they seem to be very few and far between. Any good storys? Would love to know what they are like. They are just so rare.I wonder if they are like the militarys in personality .

I had the opportunity to play with some at a pet store in south Fla last year they were going for around 3500. Seemed to be decent birds, not quite as nippy as the Militarys that I have held and larger. The store owner here has a B&G/Buffons hybrid that is a nice bird, just a tad more skittish than a B&G.

Hi,

We have Both a Buffons and a Military. I have attached a picture so you can see the difference in size and color.

Gary

What is the Buffon's personality like compared to the Military? We have met a few sweet Militaries but for the most part they are a bit determined shall I say and nippy.

The closest we got to a Buffon's was a hybrid we met a few years ago. She came in on consignment and went back out really fast.

I think they are pretty rare and a little more expensive too.

We did have a couple approach us one time and told us that they had a Buffons that needed some work. They thought we would be interested because we had big bird experience. They wanted a couple thousand and I think she was around 5 years old. We never pursued it.

What a great shot showing the difference between the two, Gary.

I know several people that have them. Most say they are a bit nippy, similiar to a Military. I had read they were supposed to be sweet, like a Greenwing, but it seems that may not be the case after talking to 3-4 people with them. LOL Their green is beautiful especially in the sunlight. The ones I have seen in person were breeders and they were in an outside enclosure.

We have a couple of Buffons and their personalities are different, neither one is nippy. One is very playful, jumps from one cage top to another, climbing, and playing with his greenwing buddy. Our other one is less active and enjoys playing with her own toys and watching her surroundings. They are both unclipped. Our military is rehomed and is a sweetheart.

In my experience with the different macaw species, the birds history and surroundings develops their personalites. Our scarlets are totally different, one is quiet and the other is active and nippy. Our B&Gs have totally different personalities, one is smart, cunning, and loud, the other one is quiet and sweet.

Having said that, they all have one thing in common, they love nuts!
