Default Patagonians hover in flight

Since Patagonians, like Red-fronted Macaws, dig their nests in the side of mountains and clay hills, they adapted the ability to hover before landing. Our Princess recently molted all her clipped primaries and is flying again. I love to watch her hover in mid-air while she's choosing the perfect spot to land on her play top.

I find it very interesting...thing of all the excess energy it must take to just hover in one spot for several seconds!

You know, I remember reading about Patagonians digging their nests, but I never put two and two together as to them hovering, but of course they'd have to. That's so cool!
