Default A young Standard pet shop budgie

Sugar
Sex: male
Age in Aug. 2006 (about 3 months)
Type: Standard budgie
Mutation: dark eyed clear

I purchased Sugar from a small independent pet store. They had just gotten in 2 babies and had them on the counter to work with them. Sugar was so pretty I couldn't resist. I named it Sugar thinking it was a female but I was wrong. However, he kept the name. He was a very scared little thing. It took him several days before he would eat and he would sit all day long and not move.

I did everything I could think of and followed every suggestion, to get him to be a more active bird. I even took him to the vet to see if he was sick. The vet said he might be depressed and thought another bird would help.
I got another bird and Sugar did become more active. However he is still a VERY quiet bird. He still does not play with toys but he will interact with my other budgie.

I don't know if you can tell in the picture but his flights were cut unbelievably short. Even the vet commented on it. I sometimes wonder if that had an effect on his personality. He had an extremely long tail and he was very scared to jump from a perch as a baby, as keeping his balnce was difficult.

I have since let his flights grow out and he is fully flighted and moves with ease. He is not tame but yet has no fear of me. He does seem to be a happier bird

I know I'm not supposed to reply here, (this is for logistics purposes though) I'm typing Jerry's bio now - I think I will add his name to the subject line since there will probably be a few of us at least that had a young standard budgie from a pet store.

(and beware, try as I might, I cannot keep it under 200 words )
