When we brought Keke home she came with a bong. We were told that she slept on it and we knew that sleeping out of her cage was going to have to change quickly. We we discovered the bugs that came with her everything went outside that came with her. On the weekend I cleaned and sanitized the bong thinking that it would give her something else to play on. So on Sunday we put it up and she seemed to have a good time with it until bedtime. She didn't want to come down and we had to bribe her to come down. I held it so she couldn't get back on it and she seemed OK. Should we remove it at a specific time at night to get her understand that she can't just be on it all the time or take it away all together. I am reluctant to remove all together as she does like to jump on it and seemed so happy to have it back unlike some of the other things she hated them and we just got rid of them. Any thoughts. She has lots of other things to play on in her cage which she plays with and we are working on a extra play gym to play on. The bug problem was huge cockroaches in the hollow parts of the cage the former owner was aware and just decide not to tell us it was lucky that we found out before the went through the whole house I know I ask a lot of questions but who better to ask than all of you thank god your here

OMG!!!!!! I would be freaking out!!!!! That poor bird living with roaches! It only takes one roach to lay eggs in your house, then you have hundreds.

does she have a bong in her cage? What about putting one in there? Two of mine have bongs that the sleep on.

We were really freaked by the bugs I have never seen a cockroach and we were lucky that we found them before setting up the cage they would have gone right through our house. The thing that made me mad was the former owner knew about them and just didn't tell us. That was the major reason for getting a new cage they were in every hollow part of the cage. While they didn't come out when we first cleaned it when I poured boiling water in the holes they came out by the thousands. So now every fuzzy is a bug. I hate bugs in the house. It was no wonder why she liked sleeping on her bong they must have just swarmed her cage at night. and that is part of the things we have had to try to over come with her. We have manged to keep them contained to the bathroom and we only seen two on live one and one dead but it will be a while before I am convinced that they are not living in my house. And it is something I had never thought of with used cages. They won't come out with regular washing only if the water gets in the hollow parts and it is too hot for them. I am not sure I will ever buy another used cage. Even though we cleaned them out and we will once the weather gets warmer take it to the local care wash to make sure they are gone before I can sell it or use it at the trailer. here are the pic I was so sure know one would belive me I took them they are the second tub and we had to put drain cleaner down the drains to make sure there was no food to feed any straglers plus spray after closing the doors with the fan on to protect the birds. It makes me mad that she was willing to risk my household as well as simons health and ours. She has a rope ring in her cage

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GODDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!! A horror movie! That poor bird! I was thinking the same thing about them crawling on her. I grew up in a house infested with roaches as a child so Im flipped at the thought! There is a product that has no fumes at all, it called COMBAT. They are little black disc that you place around and it really works! They worked in the house I grew up in and Im telling you...it was bad! I feel so bad for you right now.

Yuck, that's awful! Glad you were able to find out in time, though. Sheesh, some people, huh? Anyway, I'm with Jeanne! Get her another bong for in the cage. All three of mine have one in their cage, and there's a couple hanging around outside the cages as well.

Something else to look for. The egg cases look like a brown kernel of corn with ridges around it. If you see them you want to scoop t hem up immediately. Hundreds will come from 1 case. So the cage is out of the house now?

If you have an issue with her sleeping on it, or not getting off of it for bedtime or whatever...is it possible to hang it someplace else in the house? For example..Harley LOVES his swing, but it really was too big for his cage, and that is the ONLY place he'd EVER perch (obviously not good for his little feet)...sooooo we hung his swing from the ceiling, so that during the day he could play on it, but he did not have the option to get on it in his cage....


Would that work?
