chew on leather toys? I buy large toys for our macaws and they chew the wood and acrylic pieces and leave the leather. Just curious as to whether your birds actually chew the leather.

Nobody here does either.

Tausi loves to untie the knots in leather laces. He has a leather toy that consists of a three inch by 6 inch slab of leather with holes drilled in it, and about 12 laces poked through and knotted on either side. Really simple toy, but its one of his favorites. It takes me a while every day to put the laces back in and retie them. In fact, I need to get some new laces for it, he's down to the last two! Once he gets them untied and out, he'll work on cutting them up into smaller pieces.

Chewing on a string of leather is one of Kady's favorite thigs to do. We go through a lot of leather strands here. I take a strand of leather and put in through a straw and then tie knots in it. He works his way up the leather chewing the knots off then chews on the straw with the leather in it.

Our birds will chew the strings, but nothing larger than that. The larger leather pieces are difficult to clean if not chewed quickly. For those who's birds love to chew leather, this looks like a good site for natural products.

We are not big on leather either, although I liked your straw idea Karen. Ruby likes straws (mainly mine with a little cherry slushy in it) but I think she would like the leather idea.
