Default Toy Price

So I was just looking at toys from Drs F&S, That Pet Place and Bird Paradise. WOW, the price has shot through the roof! The last time I went toy shopping was at the bird show where I got toys, mostly for under $10. I went to order some for the fids and almost all of them were over $15! I couldn't believe it! Are they always this much, or is it just this time of year?

I see so many toys that are WAY over priced from some places. I like ordering direct from the people that make toys. I think their prices are more reasonable. When I have time I do enjoy putting toys together with my own supplies also.

I have been making Ruby toys because it doesn't matter if they are 5 dollars or 25 - she will tear it up in a matter of minutes! She even tore up a stainless steel box that was supposed to be indestructable. Took her a whole day to do that! LOL She prefers foot toys anyway so I just put a lot of whatever on a shoelace and she goes to town!

I agree, the prices are high for something that will be chewed up in a heartbeat which is the case in our home. We order parts and assemble our own the majority of the time.

I think a lot of the increases we're seeing lately are probably related to oil prices more than anything. As the cost of transportation and manufacturing just about anything goes up......well, you know. I really need to get more serious about making toys, it is a pain to pay so much for something where the whole idea is for it to get destroyed!

I couldn't agree more Nate...now it's just to get up some energy, and try to be creative...LOL...ya right! Maybe someday....I just can't seem to get motivated to "make" toys for some reason. There just always seems to be too much other stuff to do....including playing with the fids...

Someday maybe....someday.....LOL

I really need to start doing this. Do you have any tips for where to get the supplies? Some places I've looked, it seems like the toy parts are almost as expensive as the toys!

Nate,
I have four places I like to haunt, LOL! I'm a picky shopper so I try my best to get the most for Hubby's dollar, LOL! I buy at, Grey Feather Toys, Angel Toys, Nalani Toys, and Rockport Roost. I also buy things at Walmart on occasion, or at the Dollar stores. Some of the other folks here may have some more good places I haven't shopped at, yet, LOL! I think what got me started was coming across a site I'm sure you've seen, called "On African Wings", great site! Loads of idea's! Have Fun Shopping and Toy making!
