Default Here's the issue with Harlie's price....

Halrie is a 2 year old Harlequin Macaw and he is $2000 firm.

I have become friends with one of the pet store's employees. She emails here and there about Harlie updates through the week.

Regarding Harlie's price, she said...

She knows the owner won't budge. They have people all the time come in asking if they would bring prices down on some of the birds and it almost never happens...there are a few birds that she would probably think about taking offers on, but with Harlie being the only Harlequin they have and there being multiple interests in him, the owner would never go for it. She said Harlie has been vaccinated and they do go by the "pet lemon law" and if I were to take him to a vet and there was something wrong with him they would take him back in a 2-week window (pfft...I would NEVER do that, I'd just end up paying the vet bill). Pet store prices are always higher than breeders because they buy them at the prices that breeders sell at and they have to raise the price to cover cost of food, vet care, and she said a little profit.

Which, honestly makes sense. *sigh* Why did I have to fall head over heels in love with a PET STORE fid?!

I don't have MANY good local friends, but the few that I do have, I simply ADORE!

I was complaining to my friend about how much Harlie and a stainless steel cage would be and she said, "Guess, you're just going to have to look at the Mac and it's cage as an investment Divide the money into the number of years a Mac lives and it will only come out to pennies. Besides, how can you put a price on love? "

Now how awesome is that thinking!!! If only Joe thought the same way.....I'll work on him

That is still ridiculous. Harlequins are not considered rare, just hybrid.

Vaccinated...? For what? Polyoma a baby's disease? Or WNV? I don't see where that has much to do with anything.... those are CHEAP vaccines.

It's still too much. Way too much.

He was vaccinated for Polyoma.

I know. Okay, secretly I have this creeping crawling feeling about that place and I don't want it to transfer over into Harlie if I was to get him.

WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER TO GO IN PET STORES?!

I hate pet stores and know they're generally in it for money.

Ugh I'm torn.

I empathize, and understand your current decision is hard.

Save your pennies. If he's still there and you want him after your place is ready for him; then his price is worth it; until then, the situation and his price doesn't seem fair to you, harlie, or your fiance.
