#4 | | | Re: Hi Lightwing, Welcome! Hey everyone, thank you for the warm welcome! I am home sick and the coughing is killing me.
I share my home with a female, 14 year old YN amazon named Chubacca, Bacca for short. She is the love of my life. We've had our ups and downs throughout her maturity, but nothing some patience and band-aids couldn't handle. She really is a great friend, and in part I think it's due to my reading the book Don't Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor. I really don't know how I would have outlasted the extinguishing phases of bad behaviors if I hadn't read about them in the book. She talks, she cuddles, she screams like a shrill woman sometimes (usually when she trips on something, lol) and she loves to sing to me in my own singing voice (oy!). I have had her since she was weaned as a baby, so she didn't really have anything to overcome but my own ignorance, thank goodness.
I also share my home with a 5-6 year old budgie, unknown sex, named Fizz-wigg, Fizzy for short. S/he hates my guts unfortunately, poor little guy. Bad mommy for getting a budgie who was not tame. I "thought" I could tame her/him, but s/he really likes to bite and grind on my hands, lol. I think I prefer the bites of Bacca. S/he has come a long way in tolerating me around and inside her/his cage, but won't step-up, so that's that. S/he does make kissing noises to me when I'm next to the cage, but just won't trust me extremely close. S/he's just my little bugger that I love to death from afar.
I lost my long-time companion of 16 years this past May. BJ was a female Nanday conure who I bought from a pet shop in ignorance when I was 18 years old. It was the best mistake I've every made! She was a fiesty little thing who loved to be on my shoulder or lap, but hated hands right from the get-go. I was never able to get her over her terrible fear of hands, but she did allow me to do the necessary grooming like nail and wing trims. Although, she did let me know with a few choice swear words (in Conurespeak) that she really didn't appreciate it, she only tolerated it because she loved me. Anybody else, and they'de have a chunk taken out of them, lol. She was loud, she was bossy, she was the head B****. But I loved her more than life itself. She would do funky dances when I did chores around the house, I'm convinced to make my work a little bit more fun. She said a few words in a cute gravely whisper: "Sweet baby", "Gimme kiss", "Whatcha doin'", "DANCE!", as well as the various immitated sniffles, laughs, giggles, snaps and squeeky doors and chairs. She was my clown, and boy do I miss her. I had been able to track down her owner previous to the pet store, but she didn't know where her parents had gotten her, only that it was an individual.
Anyway, my heads about to explode, maybe I'll expound some more on my loving family at a future date if ya'll aren't bored out of your mind.
