Default OK Guys, I've been asked to foster a Citron Cockatoo

This is not final yet as the bird did not come in yet. But I've been told it's only 8 months old and the people do not have the time for it. 8 months old! Another perfect example of people buying without thinking! Grrrrr.

I'm considering it, but I'm guessing this bird is loud and possibly a screamer already. Although I have read that Citrons are considered the most quiet of the toos. Is this true?

I'm also assuming it hasn't had much attention. I'll find out more as the week goes on. It would be coming with a huge cage. How I would get it into my condo is in question.

I'm not sure if anyone here has Citrons, but any information or input would be very welcomed here!

Thanks guys!

Good luck! And no that's not sarcastic. They are generally more subdued Too, as far as too go that is. But they are busy bodies and get rather mentaly board very quickly. So I would suggest lots of puzzle type and foraging toys.

Thanks Kimba! I have been doing some reading on them, and I'm definitely thinking about agreeing to this. I have some things to consider, like Ryan first. He hasn't minded so far with parakeets and cockatiels but who knows how he'll do with a larger bird.

Also, my neighbors! I have to find out more of this bird's history. I don't know how it's been treated or what it's environment has been like. I don't want to get kicked out of my complex!

Too's in general have a way of running your life. Whether he is loud or quiet, the one for sure thing will be the dander. It will coat everything you own. Id keep it far from Ryan. Too dust is known to bother other species. Well, Wendy, the only other thing I can add is, you might fall in love if its a sweetie, or it could drive you bonkers if its a screamer. Tough call. I myself...never again. The 2 I have is my lesson learned. I love them but, I honestly know why they end up like this one and its sad.

Thanks Leigh, I just may take your advice. As you said though, it's a tough call. The thing that got me was that it was so young. I immediately wanted to rescue it. But I do have a lot to consider. And coming from someone who owns 2 will definitely help with my decision. Thank you!

I volunteer and want to help do the right thing by these birds. I have to remind myself sometimes that I might not be a good fit for all of them!

Citron's are wonderful birds,They are much smaller then the ssulpher cresteds,My little girl barley makes any noise, she loves to talk but is not a screamer,I have to say she is one of my favourits here.

Here is how she hangs out with me all day,she climbs down my shirt and just stays there lol.

I am glad you enjoyed the picture of Ellie hanging out LOL. I really love the citrons,Ellie was abused, came to me with cigarette burns on her and her feathers were so yellow from nicotine, she was only fed raviolies. she would just sit in her cage and tremble, and this is how she is today, hanging out as close to me as she can.
