Default Nest building Heaven!

Ok, so I bought these cotton ball/mat things for wild bird nest building material stations. The lady at the store told me to tuck some colored threads and yarn into them as well.

I was refilling my macaws' grasshopper brand monster toys... when I do that, I cut off the old knots that the macaws have not yet removed so the hole can be restrung with new blocks. So, I had all of these short lengths of colored sisal... I stuck those in!

Wild bird nestbuilding dream! As soon as this rain is over, I will put the square cage one up... it is for humming birds (among others) and they nest all year around here. The round one will probably go outside next month.

Those of you that have done these before... do they work? Do you think they will like the colored sisal strands?

That's a great idea!

We're a bit challenged with living in an apartment.
I usually clean up the 'garden' on my balcony in the spring & leave bits of dry grasses & used to leave cat fur too for the small birds. I just leave it on the shelf or in the trellis.
They would come to the balcony [29th floor] looking for nesting materials & opportunities. Back when we had our cat I had to what out she didn't hunt them. I always know when its spring for sure, when the Purple Finches come by - they are quite loud.

At the farm i used to brush out my horse & leave the hairs near the fence. I still do this with the dog's coat.

Thanks for that good idea. We will make one too. My little sparrows love my dryer lint.
