Default Simple Foraging Toy Basket

I did this for the birds awhile ago and just found these pictures recently. Some have commented on their basket seen in my pictures and videos so I thought I would share this super simple idea that they all love. I initially made this for Lulu but all 3 love it.

I found an untreated basket from a local craft store. It's pretty light, so I took one of my larger toys to weight it down (otherwise it would tip over in the birds climbed onto the little handles):

I always have scraps of partially destroyed toys and other random bits left over. So I took everything that Lulu might enjoy - things to chew on (balsa wood, finger traps, straws, shreddable paper, leather strips, etc.) and also various foot toys like the little plastic pacifiers and plastic rings (she likes to often times just take stuff out and drop things on the floor!):

Put all things in the basket, and VOILA! And the basket is part of the toy too since they love chewing on the basket just as much as the toys inside!!

All three of my guys love rummaging around to find their favorite things and they even discover new favorite things along the way

Ryan LOVES baskets filled with stuff. He has them all over the place. He likes to choose what he wants to play with. It also keeps him very busy.

That is so cute! I can just see your 3 rumaging around in that! Ruby also loves to dig and throw everything out! I'm not sure she ever actually plays with the stuff, except to see how far she can throw them! lol

Sarah, that is so neat! That would even work well if you hung it so they could fly to it to play.

I have been wanting to buy some baskets but I'm worried they might be treated with something. What kind should I look for?

I saw some raw baskets, but I was wondering how long it would last. Banjo now has a plastic basin full of stuff.

I think it is a great idea & am glad this thread has resurfaced.

I was recently at a bird show & saw many great toys. They also sold toy bits & I wish I had taken them.

One thing I saw & it was pretty cool, was a wooden bucket full of similar toys. A Terracotta plant container - the right shape - say for a cactus, would also work for a heavier bird.
