You're holding a parrot for, say, 15 minutes and the whole time it holds it's wings a bit away from it's body, but seems perfectly happy with you holding it?
Is this hormonal? Just behavioral? A Macaw thing (it was Harlie)?
They cant sweat or cool off like we do, so the just open the wing a little away from the body to cool by exposing blood vessels. The room may have been warm.
Mine do it to be dramatic I think lol....like after they fly or something. It's like...look at me....my wings are out...I'm SOOOO exhausted! Silly silly.
Ollie does it when she's excited. I often see her do it when somebody she knows but hasn't seen in awhile comes over to visit, like my brother or my dad. She'll fly to them and sit with her wings slightly out. I tell my brother (teasingly) that its so she's prepared to fly at the drop of a hat because she doesn't trust him. She likes him though.
Marley does that when he ses the green beans comin out of the fridge or when he sees my mam... basically anytime he wants something and he wants it NOW!!
