Default Big Kitty Boston

I can't put into words what this cat means to me. He's so special and dear to me.

Dave adopted Boston the year after he graduated from college (I was still finishing my last year of college at the time). He went to a shelter and said, "Show me the cat that no one wants." He was led to a room that contained about 30 cats and inside a small carpeted cat house sat Boston. He had been there for at least a year at that point, and he was an adult (estimated 3-5 years old) and assumed to previously be a stray. His fur was like straw and he was very skinny and a big cat in general. The shelter named him since he was there so long and he responded to his name with a meow. He was too nervous to come out of his cat house so the shelter sent his cat house with him and Dave took him home. Dave had him neutered and it was after that that Boston gained most of his Big Kitty weight

I met Boston about a week or two after Dave had him - and it was love at first sight. Animals usually take to me quickly, but it was an instant connection with Boston. I can look at him and we understand each other. He's a very sensitive cat, the most sensitive that I've ever known.

Dave jokes that everything he buys he buys for Boston - about a year after Boston was with him, he bought Boston a house. Then he bought Boston a playmate, our 2nd cat Bruin. He then bought Boston a wife - that's me lol! Our latest purchase for Boston is our new furnace so that Boston is warm enough.

Boston has a unique hobby....he moves things at night and while we're out of the house....A couple years ago he moved a bunch of shoes in the middle of the night - took them from the laundry room and put them in the living room (I seriously thought we had a ghost for about 2 months before we discovered that it was Boston moving things!!). Ever since he started to move things he does it every single night - socks, shoes, the occasional article of clothing. Every morning I wake up and I'll find various socks strewn about the house and I'll say, "Boston, you've had a busy night!!" Sometimes we're lucky enough for him to deliver us a sock while we're still awake LOL. We believe that he's "hunting" and bringing us gifts, but we've always found it odd that he just out of the blue started this behavior and hasn't stopped doing for a single day since.

Here are 2 videos of him with his favorite toy - I never thought he would enjoy something like this, but he loves it!!

YouTube - Boston's favorite toy

YouTube - Boston's Victory

We believe that Boston is maybe 10 or 11 years old now.

And of course we bought Boston a dog and he has fallen in love with Riley:

I'll let you in on a couple secrets too:

1) Boston is VERY affectionate and would love nothing more than to be carried around all day long. He loves to rub noses - he greets me at the door when I get home every day and the first thing I do is lean down and we rub noses.

Therefore, he has earned the nickname Mr. Snuggles - don't tell him I told you that!

2) Boston and Riley have a lovely affair - Riley "chews" on Kitty and gently nibbles him all over. We first discouraged this until we realized that Boston loved it - he rolls over and purrs! This behavior has led to Riley chewing off most of his whiskers leaving him with whisker stubble...

Oh Sarah - my face hurts from grinning!

Boston is great - Way to go Dave! ~ no wonder you fell for this guy.

Vive had a similar ball toy, but with a scratch pad in the center - I gave it to my neighbour eventually & her cat loves it too. Vive would sit beside it & whip the ball around & around - mostly to get us to notice she was neglected but also to play. I would put cat nip under & on the pad & she'd roll all over it.

Vive never moved things but she'd sit beside anything that was not put away or in its wrong place. She would sit on the front hall chair & wait for me to come home & I would drop everything & sit with her & love her up. Cats are so cuddly.

It was my cat Cleo who used to bring me mouse presents - when I lived in houses that were not the best. I remember waking up to a mouse being tossed into the air right by my head - another in my shoes. I saw recently on a documentary, that cats are the only animal to bring its owner a 'present' naturally - without any training.

Long live Boston. What a beauty he is.

What a nice story! Your love for him shows in your writing, it's so sweet. Had to smile when I read the part about Boston moving things at night. That had to be a perplexing until you figured out what was going on.

We had a similar experience with our feral kitties. In our case we had things come up missing and the list grew daily.

We don't have a big house, so it really left us scratching our head for over 2 weeks wondering where our items were going. We weren't missing tiny items either...pajamas, socks, kitchen towels...

Had to laugh when we finally found the pile of our belongings. The cats were taking them up into the lining of the bed springs and stock piling them!

Yep, I drop everything for Boston too! I am sooooo glad that Boston only brings us socks and shoes instead of mice!! That's interesting about cats being the only animals to naturally bring gifts.

Boston seems to like small wild birds outside as they zoom past the window, but he shows no interest in our birds - but I would still never trust him or any cat around the birds. He also has all claws and I just don't want to take a chance at a puncture wound. Jerry does know Boston's name and talks about him regularly though

OMG the mystery of the moving things drove me insane!! I thought that maybe I was sleep walking, that Dave was playing tricks on me. I first noticed it because Boston brought out both shoes of a pair that I hadn't worn in months and months because they were uncomfortable. And some nights he would move 8 or 10 shoes and put them all in the living room. Before I would go to bed every night I would scour the house to make sure that all shoes were put away, only to find a pile again in the morning in another room! My mother in law thought I was nuts and that the dog was moving things (but she was always locked out of the laundry room) - until she animal-sat one day, had Riley outside for hours while she was away, and then came home to many shoes moved

He finally revealed himself one night when we stayed up late chatting with a guest. We heard Boston meowing and he suddenly walked into the room dragging a sock.
