Do any of you have Budgies & Lennies? I see that you do Nancy. How do they get along? Could they be kept in the same cage together if the cage was large or do they absolutely need to have separate cages? How are they together when out to exercise and play?

Denise & Nancy can best answer this one - but i have to put my worth in here too.

I think that many birds really do well in separate cages. Budgies are more active than most birds - almost finch like. From what Denise has said - the Linnie is more laid back & they are walkers so their cage set up should reflect that. 'Course my Budgies are walkers too - drat them!

If you have a really big cage maybe you can have the 2 together. You will probably play it by ear - I've never heard of a Linnie attacking anything.

I have 2 Budgies & 2 cages - cause the older one will not share his space & unlike yours they are males. Mine are out all the time & if you plan on having yours out as well i'm sure they will play together at least. Sarah has 2 Budgies & a Tiel that hang together - but separate cages otherwise.

I can only speak from my limited experience. I would never house my linnie with my budgies. They are not interested in each other at all. I put them together and Parsley, the linnie, usually flies right back to me. The English budgie Spice tries to peck at Parsley, where Sugar totally ignores her. I NEVER leave them alone together. I don't trust Spice. Parsley is so meek , I'm not sure she could protect herself from Spice.
I got them to be near each other last night by letting them all have millet which they love and hadn't had for awhile. But I stood by them and supervised so no one got hurt.
I saw on one of the video's you posted where a budgie and linnie were gettting along fine so it can happen. But I certainly wouldn't just assume that your birds will get along.

I do realize that individule personalities come into play. So far both of our Budgies are really calm and sweet, even laid back. On another forum a woman keeps her Linnie in a large cage with her two Budgies and she says they get along great and she hasn't had any problems. I guess the best way to tell is when the are introduced and see how they do.

I'll be curious to see how the Linnie(s) fit into your budgie flock! I think everyone is right in that individual personalities will come into play the most.

I know people who keep them in cages together.... but I do not think it could be something you could do right off the bat... I also know of people that keep Linnies with Canaries.. in aviaries.. I do not think I would ever do that...
I also know someone who keeps a Linnie & a Tiel in a cage together..
I think it al depends on how the birds interact with each other...
I keep my Linnies & P'let babies in a cage together... but would never keep them that way after they mature...

Thanks! I don't need to keep them in the same cage I was just curious since I have Budgies. Since we were thinking of getting one to start I thought it might keep him/her from being lonely.

Another question~ How does a single Linnie do? I'm a stay-at-home-mom so there will be no lack of attention and love that's for sure. Is it better to have two? Something tells me that was the wrong question to ask especially of Denise.

Linnies do great alone... That is what I suggest to new Linnie owners.. it gives you time to learn all about their ways.. behaviors, and personality...
But ... Linnies are like potato chips..you can't stop with just one...

Yes that's what we want to do, get one and spend a good amout of time getting to know him/her then eventually get another...and maybe another..and well..who knows.LOL!
