#1 | | | Update for you Arty Hi Arty & Everyone, I thought I would give an update. My PC is still dead but I check in from this laptop but it just isn't the same!
First Olive, she is thriving and doing well. I haven't taken any pics of her lately. She seems like a small pigeon to me, I think I remember you commenting on that too arty. I am surprised to report that she seems resistant to tame, runs from my hands, etc. It was a very hard decision but I finally trimmed her wings, she was avoiding me too much and flying out of my reach. I thought it would encourage her to trust me and learn that good things come through me. I see the other pigeons that you have adopted out Arty and they all seem so tame and there was no reason to think Olive wouldn't but I swear it must be something to do with her being a racing homing variety or something. All I know is with her ability to fly her independence grew. I could see how she could turn wild if not nurtured. I also wonder if this is a fear stage that she may grow out of with age too. She is always on guard and believe me, nothing has happened to her to make her scared! That being said I want to also report that she has her good moments too. In those moments she enjoys being pet and exploring. I have had her to the shop and she did well. I do regret trimming her wings but if she is to live here with me I have to do it for now. Maybe things will change later. I find it amazing that even though I nurture her every day I can barely keep her tame but Boyd spent a few weeks in your loft and he comes back nicer than ever!!! We all can pet him! He loves it and apparently us now!!! Is it possible that he missed us and is so happy to be back? The only way I know it is him is he still bites on occasion.
Boyd and Olive have met and they both went after each other. I will keep trying. They did hang out near each other but out of the others reach and did ok but watch out if they get close. Kind of a bummer, but Olive is young and things may change. I am pretty sure she is a girl, she doesn't have any body language around Boyd, he dances and coos for her...he dances and coos for everything...I think he did it for a dixie cup yesterday.
so, sorry this is long but I wanted to catch you up Arty, as I haven't posted much lately and I wanted to let you know that Olive and Boyd are doing good.
I hope things are going well for you...haven't seen you around here much lately. I hope you are doing well!! |

#2 | | | Re: Update for you Arty So glad to hear Boyd is doing so well! If it makes you feel any better, Mollie attacks us on a daily basis. Hands, toes, shirts...I think he's letting us know who's boss (I won't bash his pride by telling him his bites are less painful than a mosquitoes)! However, he shows his affection in other ways, and remains as tame as ever. I think the biting is just a male thing.
I hope he and Olive can be friends. I know nothing about this as my 2 hate each other!
Keep at it with Olive. You'll eventually win her over I'm sure. I wonder if I've just been really lucky with my 2. They aren't handled on a daily basis, they live outside away from nearly all the normal human activity, have never been anything but fully flighted...but still they remain loyal and friendly. Mira would like to be attached to me forever, and while Mollie is more independent he is still a sweet, tame boy after 10 years of this life. Yep, I'm lucky- and blessed!
Keep up the good work, and thanks for the update! |

#4 | | | Re: Update for you Arty I have always allowed the animal to be themselfs, this is me!
To help others deal with personality issues concerning there little friends I sometimes reccomend things to do that highly go against my morals and values.
Wing clipping is one, clipping the wings will place the bird at your mercy, by doing so you steal from the bird, and you steal there most valued asset, there ability to do what Mother has intended them to do, FLY.
Putting those words behind me I will say this.
Every bird is different, just as you and I, seeing others and there birds desiring to be with them can be looked at diffrently.
In Camilles situation her birds of peace don't see her as often as I am sure both would like to, Camille lives in town, her birds of peace live on the farm.
When they see her, they wish to be near her, they treasure her, they adore her.
Just as (new love) within humans, there's a fire, once the 2 humans move in with each other and spend more time with one another, there's still a fire, but not as large, sadly there's a reality here to concider, sometimes we don't appreciate something until after its gone, then we realize just how special that relationship was.
Olive maybe taking your relationship for granted and by all means (this is okay), it simply depends on what your expectations are of her.
Taking her ability to fly away from her may and may not help, her independance seems to be the issue, I think maybe one could look at it as such, except me for what I am, not what you wish me to be.
I never wish to offend anyone, excepting me for what I am, who I am, can be seen in many different ways, I am a rescuer, I have no expectations from the little ones, however, Knowing Mankind and how he/she claims to be the most intelegent creature to walk this world, I do have expections from humans.
Boyd came home with me oneday, he was taken away from your kind caring loving ways, now that he has been returned, you see a new Boyd, he appreciates you more, proof of what I say above.
Follow your heart Roxanne, if you feel taking Olives ability to fly away from her will help your relationship, then be "okay" with this, don't beat yourself up!
I pray this works for you.
