Default How to tell a Buffon's from a Military

I get asked quite often if such and such green bird is a Buffon's or a Military. If you look at the attached pictures you can see a Buffon's is a lighter green than a Military. A Buffon's usually weighs more than a Military, Barney our male Buffon's is 1650g VS Jane a Military at 1010g. According to Barbara Gould who had man Buffon's the best way to distinguish between the two is look at their eyes, here is a link to an article by Barbara Gould. I talked to Barbara several times on the phone when we were considering buying one of her Buffon's. Barbara died a couple of years ago and is missed by the avian community.

Attachments: The first pic of Jane our Military, pic (2) is of Barney our male Buffon's, pic (3) is Jane and Barney side by side, pic (4) is a close up of Barney's eye.

Good try - I'm sure I'd continue to mess them up as to who's who!

A good comparison - are the eyes always the same colour in each species? [ie - Budgies have different eye colours]. I take it [pic (3) is Jane and Barney side by side], Jane is to the right & darker green?

Fab photos tho - really lovely. Adore the close-ups & the tiny feathers around the eyes.

PS - after hearing how big Arty's TAG is bigger than some CAG's I wonder about the size thing sometimes.
