Default Silly macaws on the floor

Here is a question for all you bird brains out there. My Ruby doesn't want her little feet to touch the floor. EVER! Is this normal? I would like for her to have more exercise and she likes to walk up the stairs but when I put her down on the floor elsewhere she just hates it promptly climbs up me. Should I be thankful she doesn't like the floor?? I have two big holes in my baseboards under my kitchen cabinets where my tag, Gipper, loved to work on and goodness knows I don't need any more holes made by a macaw beak, but I would like her to be able to walk around. Is she just too young? 1 and a half?

My two are much older than Ms. Ruby and I didn't have them when they were younger so I don't know if the floor play is age related.

I have one (female) that loves the floor and the other one (male) detests it! Kady is just like Ms. Ruby, he can't wait for those little toes to be firmly back on me!

Kita rolls all around on the floor on her back playing with her ball. I constantly follow behind her to see she doesn't get in trouble or find a suitable nesting site.

Each style has it pros and cons, that's for sure. It fun to play with Kita in this manner but she's insistent about her walk-a-bout floor time. At times when it's hard to stay two steps ahead of her thought process, I wish she would prefer to be content, safe on my shoulder.

ivy isn't too big on the floor either. she lets us put her there but she usually will run up to one of us and crawl up. it might be an age thing?

None of our birds play on the floor. I am thankful for that, but they do like to play on flat surfaces, couch or bed with us so they can hop and roll around which is good for exercising their talons in a different way from their perches or rings.

Seymour thinks he is a "floor chicken". We can't keep him off the floor, he loves foraging for trouble and that great big greenwing beak seems to always find it. So yes in a sense you are lucky Ruby don't like the floor. Jack on the other hand very rarely will get on the floor, he usually prefers to fly everywhere rather than walk.

Yes be very glad. Once they discover the floor and it's infinite possiblities of adventure, they want to get into everything. Otherwise eat your stuff. My GW Loves going for walks! the other two pretty much stay put. I can leave them for a while and they really stay put!

Mine love the floor, I know when they're floor exploring when the Goffins yells "you get back up there!" LOL. Could it be an insecure thing? ... they normally feel safer in high places.

Hahahha .. I can usually tell what they're up to by listening to them talk. They love to get each other in trouble. Who needs kids when you have birds. LOL!
