I have been trying to wean Kita off her eggs. So she's been spending lots of time sitting on me and playing. I don't think we're making good progress though, she's now nesting on my mouse on the desk and won't get off. She's a sweetheart though, she let me reach in to click her 'egg' so I could post this.

Ohhhh precious Kita...poor thing. I am dreading when Maple starts to lay. I really have to read up on it, I have no idea what to do! She's a sweet girl that Kita....give her some cuddles from our flock.

Very cute, she is turning her egg to make sure it hatches.

It's been a new experience for me that's for sure. They shouldn't be laying eggs this time of year, but I obviously screwed up the diet in the fall when both birds starting getting hormonal. Once that's activated it's not like you can turn off a switch. There's actual visual changes that I saw on a radio-graph that go on inside the body when they're hormonal. So right now I have to let it runs its course and hope I have the diet the way it should be. I'm guessing I was giving too many nuts, or too much protein, but I'm not positive though.

Going back over my journal, I see I have had this problem with Kady at this time every year. So my best guess is that I have to do a change in diet toward the end of summer, so we don't have this happen again out of season.
