Poop cleanup is really easy with my two. (This may be the way all larger birds are, I don't know) My two only poop in one area, whether it be in their play enclosure or play stand. They can be playing, eating or drinking and if they have to poop they will each move to their chosen designated poop spot to eliminate. So it's an easy cleanup of their one spot. They will NOT poop in their sleep cage. They have never pooped on a toy, a perch, in a dish or on me. Dropped food requires several clean ups a day. We alternate from play stands, inside play enclosure, outside play enclosure throughout the day and I clean and sanitize each area after they use it. |

Maple's favorite trick is to walk across the living room...wait until she is about 2 inches in front of the paper surrounding the cage....poop on the carpet...and then get on the cage....AHHHHH! They poop on the couch, on their toys, on you if you get in the way!! Luckily you can tell when they need to go and sometimes move them to a poop friendly area in time. So generally, I go through a lot of paper towels, soapy water, and depending on how bad the poop stain is.....Poop Off....daily! There is fluff and feathers everywhere, food flung all over...shredded paper from one end of the house to the other. Maple wanders, so it's not uncommon to be walking out the hall and step in poop....EWWW. Clean it up, wash your foot, and continue on...LOL. I have just accepted that they are worth the mess.
They bite everything, chew everything, destroy everything. Just the other day in the matter of an hour, Maple took a chunk outta our new big huge corner computer desk, bit a hole in the couch, ate my T shirt, and stole the Ctrl key off my laptop. They are monsters. Harley hurls walnut shells all over the room. Loves to throw rice and beans at anyone in the general vicinity. Sometime I find myself begging for it to stop... ...PLEASE!!!
So...I am lucky to be a stay at home birdie Mommy who has plently of time to run around after them cleaning up...mostly...I am not as obsessed about it as I used to be. I was amazed at just how much extra work there was when Harley moved in...WOW. 2 is A LOT more work then 1. I can only imagine what will happen down the road (someday) when we add a Hy to the mix...lol.
They are precious babies, just being themselves as they should be allowed to be. I don't mind being pooped on..I can be washed... |

Kita who is my floor player will walk all the way back to her play enclosure, climb up on her perch, poop and come back out to play on the floor.
Edited to add: Maybe Kady is normal (a little) he will poop on the floor when he's sitting on the back of my computer chair.

[I even have a B&G Budgie] Laker will come right over to hang & then poop on my hand or beside the keyboard - like he couldn't have done that before he came over???!!! I was very impressed when Karen said hers were toilet trained .... I think that would be a priority for me, if it can be done.
I like giving my guys lots of freedom but those pesky little poops can be pretty embarrassing when they're on your socks when guests come over - or on the tables & you missed them. I'm not so much a neat freak [my husband covers that one] but I don't think a larger bird's poo would be OK everywhere! My sympathies - good thing you love them - it is a sure sign. [kind of like human baby issues] |
