Default Well, its official

My baby girl is a duck-butt........

Last night I caught her playing with her last tail feather. This morning, she was officially tailess. Silly bird! She's still my beautiful Jewel, but I feel like I lost half my bird! Shes so much smaller now LOL.

How long for her new tail feathers to ome in? Will she keep her next tail?

Ahh but she's a cute duck butt!

If the feathers broke off you'll have to wait until the feather molts out to be replaced. If the entire quill was pulled right out, then it should start growing back in right away.

I'm not sure when they start maneuvering better to protect the tail. I'd guess it may not be for a while though. My two are older and less active, but both of them are very respectful of their tail feathers.

Does the duck butt look seem to be hampering her flying?

I'm not sure yet... She just lost the last feather this morning.. but she was flying fine with one mangled tail feather left.. LOL.. so I doubt it will hinder her too much..

Yeah, they are broken, not pulled out, so I guess we'll jjust have to wait for a molt...

She is still a cutie!!

If it makes you feel better Piaui is like that too. He constantly pulls his tail forward and when he plays he could care less where it is. He also pulls him wing feathers forward and chews on them like a baby sucking his thumb. I'm doing as much as I can to get him to stop. I just ordered about 50 toys for the flock - If I add to many toys to his cage he won't be able to move!

2 duck butts here, too--and no, it doesn't hamper their flying abilities--but it sure makes their flights look funny! Bob reminds me of a hummingbird when he's coming in for a landing. Very graceful the way he hovers there for a moment.... :-).

Mine lose their tails on a regular basis. They play so hard with each other that broken tails are just part of the equation around here.
