Last night Max started acting a little funny. He had a watery stool and was sitting around all puffy looking,
I really worried a little but thought maybe the fluffiness was from the house being a little cold. I turned the heat up and went to bed.
I tossed and turned all night long because deep down I was a little worried still. There were no more loose stools this morning but he was still all puffed up and not really acting right.
When I came home from the store, I noticed he had a few loose stools and there looked to be a hint of blood in the stool. I got worried and called my vet. She wasn't in but gave me several other places to try. After exhausting all of the choices, I called my friend who owns a bird store. As I was talking to him I started thinking maybe Max was Maxine and she was trying to lay an egg. We never had Maxie Dna'ed so anything was possible. I thought that Macaws usually laid before they were 8 years old though. He said that it did sound like an egg was coming but he gave me the name of another vet and once again I struck out. I kept an eye on "him" all day. I was really worried even though deep down though it was an egg. I just hoped "he" could pass it. Max kept going down on the food bowls spreading her legs and straining. At one point I went over and palpated what I though was an egg down near her vent.
Low and behold about 1/2 hour later she passed it. Jim and I are going out for a few beers.
Having these birdies can make you prematurely grey sometimes.
