Default New Non-Stick Cookware.

Does anyone know anything about this new cookware Starfrit is promoting? It's called Starfrit Alternative, and it claims to be non-stick but 100% chemical free. Sounds fishy to me, but if that's the truth it could possibly be fid safe yes? I'll add the link to it. What do you guys all think?

I switched to SS when I got my first bird. I honestly dont miss non stick stuff. But Im starting to hear that anything can be dangerous cooked at high heats.

I use SS as well.....but I think if it's chemical free it might be a nice option, especially for those of us that do miss the non stick stuff...LOL. But again, that is only if it is truly chemical free and Ok for them to be around.

EDIT: Doing some more research, the natural ceramic powder this stuff is coated with is indeed PTFE free, which as I am sure you all know is the problem coating on traditional non-stick. Just referring to one of my favorite parrot books here, and it says ceramic is 100% safe. I will definitely have to look into this further..maybe I'll email the company!

Hey All,

I emailed the manufacturer and this is the response I received:

"Thank you for your question. Our new ceramic coatings absolutely contain NO PFOAs, NO PTFE and are certified chemical free. Ceramic is baked at over 1000 degrees, so you can rest assured that it can handle extreme heat without any fear of deterioration, fumes or any toxins being released."

I don't know. It sounds good to me. And my favorite parrot book tells me ceramic it safe. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm excited about this...LOL.

sounds pretty cool, but i would feel wary of it until more research is done on it. but then, the only time i really would want to use non-stick is pancake time lol!

Ya I don't use them too often either Emily....just be nice to know the couple times a week (if that) that'd I would LIKE to be able to use them...I could without worrying. I emailed them back and asked specifically if there were any clinical studies done in regards to birds so I will let everyone know what they say. But everything I have read says that the PTFE's are what emits the unsafe fumes. And if they contain no PTFE's that would leave me to conclude they are A OK.....same as using a ceramic baking dish.

Hmmmm.......

i know what you mean. i look forward to hearing what they have to say on that. i think i just worry that there could be something in addition to PTFE's that are harmful. but i worry about every little thing all too often

I hear ya! I worry about them all the time...but realistically....if we had to get rid of every single little thing that is of some danger to them....our homes would be empty.....everything seems to pose a threat..and it changes all the time. I just do my best to minimize the threats. In a perfect world everything would be avoidable...but unfortunately it's just not so. So hey...if we can make our Sunday morning pancakes with a less of a risk...that's sweet! He he!

Off topic a little.....been away for a few days...but still have read up on Ivy. Glad to hear she is doing well. Harley survived his first visit to the in laws this weekend. He was the life of the party!

Strange. Anyone ever seen these pans? It says they are available at walmart, but they are not on walmart.com
