Default My Papi

So, Papi came to me as 4 year old. He hated people and was pretty unhappy. Over the past 2 years, we have become really great friends and I love him so much. When he first came home, I remember doing some research and read that he probably wouldnt learn many new words since he wasnt a baby.

He suprises me every single day. The past week or so, he has been such a clown. The other day I heard my cat meowing like crazy. I look over and its Papi meowing, not the cat. He's picking up what seems like new words almost every day. Hes got such a sence of humor, he cracks me up all the time. The other day I had some music on and I was singing along, the next thing I know, hes bobbing his head up and down to the beat almost like a Too. He has recently learned the microwave beep and the coffee maker noises, including the perculating noise.

He always seems to say "I love you" at the right times and makes me tear everytime. His newest thing is holding on to the cage with one foot and rolling on his back while I'm scritching him.

Today, he devoured a bowl of kale, taking breaks to whistle and grunt. When he first came home, he had had nothing but seed for 4 years. Up until today, he refused to try anything leafy.

Everytime he tries something new, my heart just melts. He's such a happy playful bird, completley opposite of the bird he was 2 years ago.

I hope this all makes sense.. I am completley in love with this bird and just felt like sharing with everyone, as I know you all understand.

Yes, there is nothing that gives you a higher sense of accomplishment than to rescue a bird that was not treated right and see him blooming with good care.

Congratulations and kudos to you for adopting him!

I missed this post earlier Josh. What a lovely story. Hugs for you, scritches for Papi.

It's been a little over 2 years that Kady has been with me also and I'm still seeing changes and he is much older than Papi. I don't think they ever stop learning.

I think Papi will continue to blossom and grow with your love and good care.

I must have missed this one somehow too. I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from. Both of mine are rehomers that were not in the best situation. I see change and accomplishment in them every single day. You are doing a wonderful job with Papi....

lovely story...thank you!
