These birds build there nest on the power poles for a reason, the warmth.
They are true survivors, I wish they built there nests in trees and only trees.
But then Mankind would come up with some other reason to be rid of them.
My wife and I are owned by 4 Quakers now.
Tanks, Male green Quaker.
Tucker, Male Blue Quaker.
Pickles, Adopted Male green Quaker.
Ninja, our newest family member, an adopted Male green Quaker.
The Quaker is a awesome little Monk Parakeet, there talking ability is only second to the African Grey.
They are personality plus, we love all our birds here, and what we find to be very amazing, they love us just as much...
I followed the mass poisonings of the Monk Parakeet a few years back in Conneticut, hundreds of people showed up to protest the poisonings, I hate to say this but standing accross the street crying did not save these birds, hundreds were killed on that day, but there was some good, animal rights activists put political pressure unto the power companies and now when the nests are removed the babies are removed carefully and turned over to rehabbers, the power companies in CT will think twice before poisoning these birds again.
Now poles are being built and erected in this state, these birds are encouraged to us the poles instead of the power poles, its one thing to point out the issue, its another to provide a solution.
These poles cost one hundred dollars to build and erect, I sent in my donation to put up one pole.
There's a need to get more people involved, and yes this means digging into the piggy bank, don't stand accross the street and weep, cross the street and stop the slaughter, and I don't mean a handful of people, I mean everyone needs to cross the street....
There's is nothing more wrong than the person that done nothing because he/she felt they could do so little.
Don't cry for these birds, they want you to know, "this isn't helping them".
Stand up.....and fight for them...cross the street.........
Proud to be owned by Quakers.
