Default Teacher teaching!

Well my husband brought some young males into my living room for singing lessons.. So I thought I would share what my living room is sounding like.. Turn up your volume!

This is the teacher, teaching the cage of young males above & below him.
the two in the top cages are Unsexed... but we think they are females.

Trying out their singing voice

More trying! They will get it right soon.

Pictures below are all red factor or colorbred canaries... This is Joe's thing, but I think they are all called mosaic?

I see that you color feed. Be careful with that, it makes them look great but it's all chemicals, you know? And chemicals are not good for birds.

Also, (please don't take this the wrong way but I've had canaries my entire life and have bred Timbrados for years so I am saying this thinking of them) there is no need to put them in such little cages for them to sing. Nobody but people who show them uses them anymore. Canaries sing all the time, even if they are in a flight cage.... well, maybe I should rephrase that, song-bred canaries sing all the time, color-bred don't but that's because they just don't have the genes for it.

They are just gorgeous especially the mosaic!!!I wish I lived closer to you because I am ready to get another canary. [i]'ve always had them and miss the singing.
My last one was named Pavarotti. I am partial to the red factors. And my oldest keet can actualy sing a few notes just like one. It's so cute.
Thanks for sharing and reminding me what I am missing. One of my best singers was a red factor

My husband breeds the canaries..He does the color feeding... He has done a lot of reading about and has read the dangers.. He is very carful...
And I do understand your concern... There are a lot of dangerous products out there..

We do show our canaries... They are in training... It was easier to take a picture like that to isolate the one that was doing the teaching...We usually keep them in flight cages.

I see you use commercial perches for them... if I may make a suggestion, use natural tree branches instead. The perches are made out of very hard wood so there is no bounce as it would be in a tree branch in nature and that puts a lot of stress in their joints (the constant impact as they jump from one to another is bad for them). The other problem is that they are all sanded down (no texture for naturally wearing out the nails and cleaning their beaks) and they all have the same exact diameter so the toes and feet are not been exercised as they should which, in time, leads to atrophy and, worst of all, to foot sores and even bumble foot.

Try natural branches of non-poisonous trees instead, wash them with soap and water and bake them in the oven for 15 minutes at 450 degrees to kill any parasite, insect, fungus that might be lurking in there. And don't even try to choose the straight ones only, the different positions also help with their balance and as exercise for their leg and abdomen muscles. Just make sure that most of them have a diameter wide enough so their nails don't touch as they circle it with their toes.
