Default Favorite Foods

What is your ekkie's favorite food? Lucy loves corn meal muffins (baked with some Harrison's treats and frozen veggie mix- yum!) and Lefarber's Nutriberries- she LOVES those! What about your birds, what do they like?

Corn lol. I have yet to meet a bird that doesn't like corn! Mine love it when I make muffins using corn meal. I mix it wth some water over the stove so its a think consistency and add some frozen mixed veggies and corn to it. They LOVE it!

I think it's so cute how birds shell everything. If I give them corn or peas I find the little corn and peas "shells" all over the place. They eat the innards of lima beans too. Anyone else's birds do this or do we just have silly birdies?

No, Deb76, you don't have silly birdies, they all do that.

And raddaughter, please be careful of not feeding too much protein and carbs to your ekkie. It is a very common mistake because neither breeders nor the bird industry tell that Eclectus parrots have the shortest intestinal tract of all psittacines and require more fiber and less protein than any other species in captivity. Their natural diet is practically all green leafy material so pellets, seeds, nuts and all other high protein food need to be very strictly rationed for them.

Beatriz,

Thank you for your kind warning. Lucy's diet is VERY monitored; corn and other carbs are something she gets as a treat and not part of the daily diet like other fresh foods. Eclectus have the longer of the digestive tracts, which is why giving them too much of a 'good thing' (such as pellets and seeds) can actually do them more harm than good. I make it a point to keep all peanuts and pellets out of her diet as much as possible. I have a AV approved homade seed that I give her daily along with all the fresh.

Well I don't have ekkies either, but Maple's all time fav is probably bananas, and Harley's is green peas!!! They both love corn!! Harley is a veggie man, and Maple prefers fruit.

Good catch on the longer vs shorter Dom ...

Bea always notices on other sites we've posted on when I reverse "longest day of the year" with "shortest day of the year"....I do it all the time lol. When you repeat the same thing all the time and don't proof it enough you end up doing those reversals. I guess it's like message board dyslexia!

It's nice to have safety nets on these board otherwise who knows what mumbo jumbo would get posted ...then repeated ...then posted...etc..
