this is a macaw used solely for breeding. his owner broke his wings so that he couldn't fly.

the only question I have for these people is why and how? why would ever allow something so gorgeous to harm itself and how can you stand watching them do it. I hate people that think animals aren't equal to people.

Anna welcome to the very sad world of rescue.Humans are very cruel people and I am embarresed to be a part of the race at times.The birds you posted have come from very bad situations,and have come along way since coming here,But their journey to recovery is far from over.Jake the macaw with twisted wings you posted had another vet visit last week,There is nothing we can do for his wings,Both shoulders are pretty much dead weight,He has no movement in either shoulder or wings.He will never be normal or able to stretch those beautiful wings.I would love to get my hands on the animal who did this to him,But for now all I can do is offer Jake a safe loving place to call his own.He does love to play with toys ,and it just puts a huge smile on my face watching him.The Jenday I don't know his whole story I got him from another rescue and he came to me like this,He came with a plucked White eye conure who he is very attached to.They sit together all day and preen each other,They have both gotten new feathers in but they will never be fully featherd.
The best we can do for these guys is show them how to trust again and give them unconditional love,I live my life here at the rescue with a constant heart break,many days I just want to stop and run and hide but how will that help.I look in these guys eyes and it makes me help even more,makes me try to educate people more .There is nothing that feels better then having one of these abused scared babies come to you and lay their head on your chest.

Oh let me add about Baby the B&G she came in nasty from a life of being a breeder all plucked.She has become my sweetheart,she is like glue she sticks to me all day and follows me around the shelter.she climbs up on my shoulder takes her beak presses it against my cheek and makes a kiss sound.she will never leave here,she now feels safe and loved and I will never take that away from her.

I agree with you on that one. Sometimes I think that most of the human race haven't risen above the cro-magnon stage.....maybe at some point evolution will weed them out
