...as we speak. Sorry I haven't posted in so long. It's been so hectic planning to move to the USA (Philadelphia).
For those of you who don't know, my dear parrot, Humphrey, is coming with us. I had a hard time deciding whether it was cruel to make her deal with the long flight and 30 days quarantine she'll have to endure, but in the end, I figured I have no one I trust to re-home her to, and even if I did, who is to say they will keep her forever? What if their situation changed? I promised to look after this bird for the rest of her life, so this is a short term situation for the long term good. But it's still heart wrenching.
There are only 3 places to bring a parrot into the USA - New York, Florida and somewhere in California. So Humph is going to New York, as it's closest. For many reasons, including the fact that no airline will allow Humph in the cabin with me on the flight, and the difficulties of getting her through customs, I have chosen to send her a few days early to be taken to quarantine by a customs broker who specializes in animals.
I took her to the airport today and my husband and I are in tears. In a few hours I will hear if she made it ok.
I have some of her feathers in a locket on my neck, close to my heart, and it's not coming off till I am reunited with my dear bird.
