Baby got on my hand!! Hi folks!
I wanted to share a great experience from last nite. Baby stepped onto me with BOTH feet!!!!
For awhile, I've been having her just simply sit on her perch on the OUTSIDE of her cage beside the recliner and eating from my hand. I moved the perch to the bottom so she could basically sit by the chair arm as she is not trusting enough of me yet to just sit on my lap. Gradually, she started trusting me enough to put a foot on me, never two feet. Then, I moved that process up to the cage top.
I didn't try to get her to step up on my hand, just sort of sit there and hang out. She did, she ate outta my hand, beaked me a second then CHOMPED on my hand a good one. ouch. I squelched the urge to react, put her back and turned around with my back to her. She said "awe". hahha. I stood there a minute or two, just with my back to her, she moved around the cage to try to see my face. I folded, turned around and acted like nothing had happened. Gave her some more food. It was late and she went to bed.
One other thing, I had taken our son to karate, and she hadn't been outta her cage all day, so I let her out before I left. My wife/daughter are still petrified of her. She flew from her cagetop and was sitting on the couch back when I got home 1 hour later. I think she was looking for me. Anyway, I think she was scared also. I brought the perch over that she previously hated SOOOO badly and it was like a life preserver. She saw it, hunched down in that begging stance and eagerly hopped onto the perch to be taken back to the cage. that made me feel good.
I have been absent awhile looking at new campers. And know that I am finding the camper with a space for the bird. Is that spoiled bird or what. She will sit on the bar.
Hope all of you are well,
