#1 | | | Parrot Mountain? in 3 weeks, my husband and i are headed up to pigeon forge, TN for our anniversary. we have a mountain cabin secured and i've been researching what is in the area.
i found a need sounding place called parrot mountain ( Parrot Mountain and Gardens in Pigeon Forge, TN (865) 774-1749). it's a sanctuary type place that looks pretty. however they also breed and sell babies to visitors which i find a little disturbing. who WOULDN'T want a cute baby bird after interacting with them? hopefully the people there make potential buyers aware of the commitment involved.
ANYWAYS, i wondered if anyone has been and what it's like. |

#4 | | | Re: Parrot Mountain? Thanks for the link Emily. Looks like a marvelous place to me. I will have to put it on my "must see" list - if I can ever get away from here for a vacation, one of these days.
I am wondering (just out of curiosity) what the prices are that they sell their babies for (since they prolly have a high over-head there, everything is so roomy, neat & clean).
I myself do not find it at all disturbing that they breed & sell birds. From the way things look on that site, I think I can fairly assume that they love all their birds to one of the highest degrees possible and therefore supply the visitors with enough info. and encouragement to hopefully instruct & convince the new owners/keepers on how to properly care for the babies - both as youngsters and continually throughout their lives. I would also hope that they turn down some people that want to buy, just because they sense they would not be able to provide a great home to their birds.
I will be interested in hearing how you liked your visit there, once ya get back - have fun, you lucky gal you. |

i think i mostly just worry about the "101 dalmatians" syndrome...like, impulse buying i guess. which doesn't always turn out bad. i would hope that they honest and up front with people about how parrots really are, even if it seems like a cute and cuddly baby right now, you know? i am a born worrier
well, i shall have a full report next month WOO! |
