tresmacaws - I know what you are saying, but it happens. My best friends sister is a hoarder, it's not hoarding living things, but her house is so crammed with stuff, you can barely move. It's very sad to have a compulsive disease. I've seen her and my friend suffer thru this.
I'm sure Julie and the rest of the staff will get done what needs to be done, I have faith in them. Thanx for your concern. |

Granted 5% are innocent people, but I don't believe the rest of them are innocent. | Tinna - I just hope you or anyone in your family never suffers from any disease, whether it be physical or mental. How lucky you are to be so free from such heartache. I suggest you do some research before you voice your "opinion". You don't know the circumstance of people that read this forum. How do you know there aren't people on here that may be suffering from some sort disease on some level. How dare you speak so freely of which you obviously don't know about.
I would like to request now that my account be deleted please. I can't take the hypocrisy on here anymore. I'm sure this will be deleted or I will recieve a PM with a warning, but I don't care anymore. What goes for most should go for EVERYONE. |

Granted 5% are innocent people, but I don't believe the rest of them are innocent. | People in glass houses shouldnt throw rocks, dont look down on someone or a problem you dont understand. You yourself has said they you are afraid of cockatiels but yet you are getting one, tell me how that makes any sense. These people have a clinical diagnosed illness "hoarding" is not a make beleive title someone is given. It is a mental disease that the people afflicted with it cannot control, they think they are doing right by the animal. And even people who hoard objects and furniture, they actually feel a physical pain to have objects/trash removed from their homes. So while you are saying you cannot see a disease as an excuse for a behavior, look at people that are diagnosed with ADD & ADHD. How could you not say that the way these people act does not fall back on thier disease. It most certainly does, medicated or not. |

#10 | | | Re: Hoarders Addction is addiction, period. Sex, drugs, gambling, eating, whatever.... Its characterized by an obsession and complusion.. Its not simply the oooo, I mist have thought we all can get and push through... Someone cant simply turn it off without help..
As in most addictions, people dont realize they are doing anything wrong until the pain is great enough and they hit bottom.
Addiction as a disease is a controversial issue, not really appropriate for this board I dont think, but in my opinion, it is a disease... A person who suffers cannot make a choice, they have none until a certain point...
That does not mean it is an excuse, because it is not whatsoever. But that doesnt mean we can treat such people with such coldness. They suffer and deserve compassion like anyone else.. It is not for anyone to judge anyone without knowing them.
As with the other thread that caused a similar debate today, I think, if a mod see's fit, close this thread or something.... This is a board about the birdies we love and we all hope these birds get great homes... that is what we should be focussing on if we can't have a friendly debate without insulting eachother....
Gayla, dont leave us please
