I'm always saddened when Kady says phrases from his other life. Some of the phrases are alright, some make me cringe.

Does it bother you when you hear your bird say a word or phrase that you they didn't learn from you?

does he say nasty things?

I know Leigh has mentioned things that one of hers says. It must give you a strange feeling when they do that.

I have a couple family members who thought it cute to say naughty words around my birds with the hope the birds would repeat them. But I made it clear from day one that I will not allow that and they all behave themselves now. Whew!

One thing I have heard is that a trashy-talking parrot can have a tough time finding a good home if something should happen to his or her current owner. I never wanted that to be an issue for my birdies -- I love them too much to handicap them in that way.

And besides, why teach a bird cuss words when there are such funnier things to teach them?

It is sad sometimes when they say something from their past home. We were lucky in the sense that Maple came from a family member and didn't say anything too wacky. She has learned a few things from us, but occasionally a choice word or two from her past home pops out. We just try to ignore it. I have a friend also who thought is was funny to teach her something nasty..and of course she picked it up super fast. Since I've told my friend off, ignored the word, and she doesn't say anything nasty hardly at all now. Unless you really piss her off. I think it's awfully stressful on them to teach them to cuss...besides we have a 6 yr old here part time who doesn't need to learn cuss words from the bird!! LOL

It really is! ONE time, shortly after I got Kady he said to me "Hi Peter." I have never heard him say it again in over 2 years.

But the eeriest thing was a year later I got Kita and she also said, "Hi Peter" right after she got here. Just like Kady, those words have never been spoken again and she's been here over a year now.

He doesn't cuss. He repeats the mean things that were said to him. The one I hate to hear the most is when he yells, "Get back there" and then he screams.

I used to petsit a CAG that had the foulest mouth I have ever heard in my life, parrot or person.
