Default Yellow sided Sun Genetics

Angie said they're harder to breed, but if both parents possess the gene it gets passed down. I mentioned to her that Jean has some pastel yellow colored feathers coming out where his primaries should be and am wondering if anyone is interested in breeding yellow sided suns or could tell me more about it? No Jean is not for sale, but it brings up another question of mine, in pretty much every animal in the world you can take a stud from a male and put it to a mare, can the same be done for Jean without compromising my boy? Like an invitro or is that too difficult? I'm asking because in the future I'd really like Jean to have a sun or daughter when he's about 15 so when he passes away I still have the child with me, I'd rather do that then that Ēloning fad practice. I'm not asking profit of this, just wondering if the practice is possible.

I've no idea I got him just in febuary of this year, like, when talking with Angie she had me check his under wing he's about a pinky's widith from his second layer of under feathers, thats how far up he was clipped and 8 feathers in on each side. He had three very light/yellow/pastel colored feathers growing in on each wing, about the 3rd or 2nd feather in from the tips. He does not have the very end feathers in yet, and only one of the blue feathers are in. the yellowish feathers are straight yellowish. I don't know if it's the same thing because he has his other colors if you look up in the Meeting Room I think it is there's a post I put up joking about his small cage and you can see him in the left corner of the open cage door so he has his colors. Just, yellow was not the color I was expecting on his wings, especially on his main ones I thought they'd be a deep blue and green. The stumps that remain of his past feathers where the clips are are all dark blue, but the new ones are coming in straight yellow, save the aforementioned one. Maybe he changes his colors each molt?

A bird can only breed in a bonded pair. There is no way for invitro fertilization because of the way the egg is built inside the hen. I can't seem to find a picture of a sun with yellow flights, but try look up "pied sun conure" all I seem to find is references to teils. One bird will never be the same even if they are related, Jean is unique in his personality.

Tinna I know now what you are refering to with a dot of yellow on the feather. Some of my birds have a glow of yellow on the blue feather. It looks like gold dust sprinkled on blue. The pieds I was thinking of is genuine yellow feathers, they have them from hatching. Adult birds look very yellow and not the sunset orange color of the standard sun. He wont change his feathers but new feathers look different when you first see them.

have a look at this baby.

the pied colors of that sun in the image you sent me don't match Jean's. I'll try and take a picture with my Mac's webcam and show you his are way lighter and the same color at the full length. You said it changes in time so are you saying the yellow will fade the entire way to blue from this? I'll try and do the picture tonight or tomorrow but the baby pied's coloring doesn't match.

THERE! THat there on the top photo the light yellow feathering is exactly what Jean has on those 3 feathers!...but he's not a full yellow so does that make him a split pied sun conure?

Thank you!

thank you, those are the kind of pics I was thinking. A bird that is not completely yellow or even normal looking can have pied babies. Some of my birds have yellow dots like the tail.

Maybe Jean is split and carries a pied gene.

That's pretty cool though, like, to come home and think you have a normal baby, then find out he's even more special than what you thought he was the day before.
