Now i really wish i'd taken Percy's photo when he visited yesterday...Next time i see him I'll bring the camera. Percey came to visit cause his owner asked me if i'd be his foster mom if need be.

Subspecies
There are three generally recognized subspecies. They do not differ in behaviour, but only in the color of the "vest". In the pet trade, the nominate subspecies is the most common though all three are raised and sold as pets.
1. Poicephalus senegalus senegalus (the nominate subspecies): The vest is yellow. Its native range includes southern Mauritania, southern Mali to Guinea and the Island of Los. 2. P. s. mesotypus: This subspecies has an orange vest. It comes from eastern and northeastern Nigeria and Cameroon into southwest Chad.
3. P. s. versteri: The vest of this subspecies is red. Its native range is the Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana east to western Nigeria.

I think he might be
a mesotypus - his bib is a dark & vibrant orange, fading to yellow. I rudely checked his tail - his owner is unconcerned if he's a he or a she - but i think Perce is a male. He's about 15 years old. Eddie is his 2nd owner. What a character - very friendly with my husband & son & me. We just held him & let him walk all over us - we didn't take any liberties with him. His owner, Eddie can pet him,hug him, put him on his back & give him 'scritches' all day long. He loves to have his beak scratched & in so doing all the flakes are gone.
His eyes pin if you say 'car', my honey & all manner of love talk. He loves to go for car rides.
would others please post photos of their birds? - would like to see all the variations.
