Default What do you want, Tiki?

Tiki is my 10 year old scarlet macaw. She has this new *thing* she started. She leaves me, wanders across the couch, and STARES at my mother who is seated at the computer across the desk from the couch.... stares and stares. Now, mind you, mom is always chatty friendly with the birds and finds good stuff to eat for them, she likes them, but she NEVER touches them.

Last time it was an icee cup that was next to mom... that is what she wanted.

But last night.... it was POPCORN. She was soooo insistant she even climbed on the desk, and waddled around the monitor before I could get up, and scoop her up, as my mom was freaking out. So I take Tiki back to sit down with me.... she leaves, and goes to stare at mom.

So Mom *tosses* a piece of popcorn to her.... and wouldn't you know it, Tiki tried to *catch* that piece of popcorn in her beak!!! We all ended up laughing so hard for the next half hour as both birds would yell "WANT SOME!!!!!" from the couch, at my mom, as they did "big wings".

What entertainment.... anyone else have a macaw that "catches"? Neither bird actually caught one, but they were enjoying themselves, and so were we.

LOL that is cute!! Lu will try to catch a balled up sock (clean) that used to be my daughters itty bitty baby sock. He hasn't successfully caught one yet...but he tries! He's good at throwing them though!

My macaw (B&G named Cooper) doesn't catch squat but he does a wicked waddle chasing a ball I roll across the floor for his entertainment. He fetches nicely and brings right back to me to roll back out for him to chase!! LOL

That sounds so cute! I've never tried playing catch with Ollie, but I have a feeling that if I tossed something in her direction she would just take off!

Dana, I haven't tried that yet. But after reading your story, I'm going to see what Kady & Kita think about the idea. Sounds like you guys had a blast.

I've been teaching Kita how to retrieve and we've been having a lot of fun with that. It seems to be working out good to teach that right along with the recall training. Kady hasn't caught on to the retrieve yet, because in order to do that, he would have to leave me. He says , I'm very and about all this... just can't do it.

Hi Dana, great to see you on ParrotChatter! My birds are much too small to catch anything. Tiki is so clever!

How's Red and Niki? Do you still visit Niki?

I do! I see her regularly as I'm the nails and wings groomer for her. She is doing oh so well!!

Red is a blessing.... rambunctious, all boy, and a cuddler to boot.
